“I once had a dream that I was walking down the stairs of a building, where I had to start from the top floor and listen to recordings of the worst comments people have ever made about me, in order to reach the ground floor where I could hear recordings of the best compliments.” I created an event where my audience believed to be participating in a project about sleep paralysis. I invited them to a room, covered their eyes with gauze and had a helper seat them on a human bench-- my body, wood, and another person’s body. I filmed this process and asked them to wait outside. While they were waiting, I secretly recorded them discussing my work. I then asked them to come in to discuss the project with me; no-one said a negative comment. As soon as it ended, I asked them to remain in the room and hear the recording of themselves speaking negatively about my work.
